Street Scene

She was sobbing. He stood
three feet away, immobile as she
wiped tears and her shoulders shook
like an abandoned child. I could see her lips
move and his lips move as they stood apart.

It was black and white like a silent movie
with no piano music to set the mood
and I wanted to shout at the screen,
"be a man, take her in your arms
and say I love you."

She slowly walked off-screen.
He trailed like a puppy dog.
