POETS COMMIT TO COBOURG

With Cobourg’s Poetry’zOwn Weekend Festival less than a month away, and the weekend officially designated by Cobourg council as Poetry Weekend in Cobourg, the event, to be held from April 16 to April 19, is shaping up to be a feast for the poetic senses. Guest poets Mike Barnes, Marek Kubisa, Diana Kuprel, Edward Carson, Jacqueline Larson and Ken Sherman have already committed to the event as well as actor David Calderisi who will recite from the works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Service and John Keats.

Local poets schedule to read at the festival include Cobourg Poet Laureate, Eric Winter, Carla Johnston, Paul Brown, Marta Cooper and Grahame Woods. A highlight on April 18 will be a children’s poetry reading with JoArno Lawson and local writer Art Cockerill. On April 19 there will be a panel discussion on the future of the book with panelists representing Porcupine’s Quill, Pedlar Press and Biblioasis.

"Many out-of-town poets and publishers view Cobourg as a poetry place." says James Pickerskill, creator of the festival. "It’s an excellent venue for poets to come and read from their recent works, especially at our free monthly public readings in front of a growing, appreciative audience. In fact, our guest readers are booked until the end of the year, which demonstrates Cobourg as a highly sought-after venue." All the events will be held at Meet At 66 King Street East.
